What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of job search?\u00a0We would hazard a guess\u00a0that it’s not fun and games.\u00a0For many, searching for a job is the opposite of fun;\u00a0arduous\u00a0resume writing, tedious networking, never-ending research, and confidence bashing interviews. We have good news fellow job seekers, it doesn’t have to be that way. Yes there are several mandatory steps hurdles to overcome but the path to success is not rigid and here’s how to find the fun in job search and\u00a0do it your way!\"fun<\/a><\/p>\n

1. Focus on aspects you like<\/h3>\n

It’s not all doom and gloom. There must be some aspect of the job search journey that you enjoy so find the fun and focus on that. Perhaps you’re a people person and love meeting new people so get your networking shoes on and mingle. It’s a fantastic way to get your foot in the door.\u00a0Maybe critical company research is just your thing. Great! Every successful job search starts with thorough research.<\/p>\n

2. Start your journey with\u00a0this fun-filled activity<\/h3>\n

Start with the\u00a0least excruciating step first. Sometimes with job search the most difficult step is the first one so leap into action with the something you find enjoyable. Perhaps you need some moral support from friends and family, so call them up and\u00a0join a job search support group. This could be just what you need to get the ball rolling.<\/p>\n

\"fun<\/a>3.\u00a0Reward yourself<\/h3>\n

Even though job hunting is a full time job which needs your dedication and commitment, it doesn’t mean that you have to lock yourself away in a dark cell until you land a job. Make sure you schedule time to have fun, reward yourself. Exercise is a great way to your mood elevated. Not only is it important to stay healthy but exercise is proven to keep your endorphins pumping. Organise a game of squash with your friends or go for a walk with your dog.<\/p>\n

4. Network\u00a0with people you think are fun<\/h3>\n

Find people who share you sense of purpose, objectives and goals. These are the people you should be networking with.\u00a0Sure, sometimes it is important to make alliances with strategic contact\u00a0who you wouldn’t categorise as fun – but this is not the only way to network. Remember that when you feel happy and confident your true potential will shine out. Consider this when you’re networking. Rubbing shoulders with\u00a0hot shots is only half the battle. Building a true relationship with a like-minded\u00a0people will likely\u00a0get you further.<\/p>\n

5. Don’t try to be perfect\"fun<\/a><\/h3>\n

Nobody is perfect and trying to be so will only lead to job search\u00a0anxiety and\u00a0paralysis.\u00a0Remember many small steps make a big effort so be easy on yourself. Take manageable steps and acknowledge everything you’ve already\u00a0achieved. For those dreaded tasks you just can’t get your head around, outsource or ask for help. If writing a resume seems as impossible as solving quantum physics there are plenty of career advisers and resume experts who you can consult.
