Every person in the world has had a disastrous interview at some point in their careers. It happens. Some people are not just as good fit in person as they are on paper or sometime the candidate get’s overcome with nerves and stress that they flop at important hurdles. 1. Stop and take a breath.<\/h3>\n

Interviewers understand that nerves are a huge part of any interview and some candidates deal with them in a different way to others. However that being said, when nerves get the better of you even the most qualified candidate could stumble. If you find yourself fumbling through the questions with incoherent answers, just stop and take a breath. Ask the interviewer politely if you can start again and explain you’re suffering from some nerves. Think slowly and speak with purpose. Interviewers are generally not the devil who are waiting for you to trip up. If you’re sincere, they’ll happily give you a second chance.<\/p>\n

2. Ask them a question.<\/h3>\n

It is bad news if your interviewer seems bored and disengaged. If they start to lose eye contact and interest its a tell-tale sign that things are going badly. It is your responsibility to make sure the interviewer is smiling, responding appropriately to your answers and maintaining good eye-contact. Turn the tables and take control of the energy in the room. Ask them a question. This will immediately get\u00a0their attention again and give you the opportunity to turn this interview from disaster to success.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Follow up.<\/h3>\n

Can you think of 100 things you wish you’d said in the interview the moment you step foot outside the door. No fear. Send a killer thank you note\/email and make sure you succinctly and to the point mention the things you need to. Say something like\u00a0\u201cI wish I had thought to mention\u2026,\u201d before the hiring manager makes their final decision.<\/p>\n
