Job interviews can seem a little daunting, but take our word for it, they really needn\u2019t be! An interview is your time to shine, but before you get caught up trying to impress the interviewer, save some energy to ask a few questions. An interview is a two-way process – the interviewer needs to bamboozle you with how great the company is, just as much as you need to wow them with your skillset and charisma. To make sure you find out as much as possible (and make a great impression into the bargain), it\u2019s a good idea to have some great questions ready for the end of the interview. \u00a0The Adzuna<\/a> team have been racking our brains to help you out, and as always are on hand to recommend some questions that you should ask…and a few that you definitely shouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

What are you looking for in an ideal candidate? Do you have any specific skills or previous work experience in mind? <\/b>These questions are great because they help achieve two things. Firstly, it may \u00a0prompt an interviewer into revealing exactly what they want. If you don\u2019t match these requirements, you will have learnt something useful and can improve you technique for future interviews. Secondly, the answer to this question could prompt you to add any information that you might have forgotten to add previously.<\/p>\n

What is the culture of the company like?<\/b> While the interviewer is deciding whether you will be a good fit for the role, this question will help you asses if the company is the right fit for you.<\/p>\n

How do you measure employee performance?<\/b> This will show you the areas that the company values the most and where you could add value to a role. You will be able to see which areas of your work are likely to be under scrutiny and it will give you an idea of the company culture.<\/p>\n

What do you enjoy most about working here?<\/b> If you want to know how satisfied and content the people who work at that company are then this is great way to find out. If they struggle for something positive to say about their role, it might not be the greatest place to work after all.<\/p>\n

Do you offer additional training?<\/b> Showing initiative and a desire to be good at your job in an interview will score you extra points. If you want to expand your skillset and work hard for the organisation you are going to be an appealing candidate.<\/p>\n

What is the next stage of the process?<\/b> This is the most important question to ask. It shows that you are interested in making progress by moving through the process. You may be given a time period in which they will get back to you and if you\u2019re lucky the interviewer may even tell you how many people you are up against.<\/p>\n

There is no definite list of things you shouldn\u2019t ask but as a general rule, never ask anything that you could have found out through a quick online search<\/b>. What does your company do? And how many offices to you have? Are prime examples of questions that you could probably find the answers to on a company website. If you ask this type of question it makes it look like you got lazy with your research.<\/p>\n

Never ask about pay, time off or your work hours<\/b> in a first interview. The danger is that you will look like you want to spend as little time in the office as possible or that all you are interested in is money. It is much better to wait until you are further through the process to find out this type of information.<\/p>\n

Never ask anything that shows you haven\u2019t been listening. <\/b>\u00a0By all means ask for clarification if you are unclear on something, but whatever you do, make sure they haven\u2019t already answered your question. If you didn\u2019t pay attention in the interview it makes you look unappealing as a potential hire.<\/p>\n
