General Manager

Description

Our client based in Cape Town, and who operates in the renewable energy space, is currently looking to employ a GM; who will be fully accountable for the overall operational and financial performance of the company.

Purpose of the job:

Fully accountable for the overall operational performance of the company. Primarily to optimise the company’s cash flows for its owners, secondly to fulfil its obligations as an IPP in terms of the DoE’s REIPPPP and its investment in the beneficiary communities.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the sound and effective leadership of the business
  • Develop, implement and manage the company’s business plan
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies on matters concerning the company
  • Identify and address operational problems and opportunities
  • Ensure that all staff are properly trained and developed
  • Manage key business risks
  • Manage and motivate line managers
  • Lead negotiations and build / maintain relationships with key stakeholders and contractors
  • Establish and maintain a safety culture
  • Represent, promote and maintain the image of the company in external interfaces with other businesses and government organisations
  • Provide recommendations to the Board to strategically enhance performance and opportunities

Management Responsibilities:

  • Includes the following:
    • Asset management (mainly contract management and liaising with major contractors, participating in operations meetings)
    • HSE management (fulfilling the 16.1 role)
    • Financial management (including all audit, modelling, tax, insurance, procurement and lenders matters)
    • Reporting (includes board, shareholders, lenders and their advisors)
    • Stakeholder management (reporting to and liaising with stakeholders)
    • Socio-economic development programme (investment approval and compliance)
    • Administration of the Community Development Trust (overall coordinator)
    • Human resources and payroll
    • Information technology
    • Corporate governance (including company secretarial function and Board sub-committees)
    • Administration of the BEE SPV

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (degree) is essential
  • MBA would be preferable
  • Senior management experience of at least 7 years is non negotiable
  • Renewable energy experience of at least 5 years is non negotiable
  • Proven leadership qualities
  • Proven business success
  • Established network of contacts within the renewable energy space is essential

CTC package commensurate with experience.
