Travel jobs – Here’s where your career can take you!

There are a handful of job titles out there that require quite a lot of traveling. While some of them are long-term careers, others are contract positions that offer pauses between projects. Travel jobs are often great fits for people looking to break free from the office-based work setup while traveling the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic might have halted applications and recruitment for many travel-based jobs, but with many people now being fully vaccinated, now is the time to start planning your next career move! Not sure which positions we’re talking about? Here’s a quick look at what’s available!

#1 – Flight Attendant

Flight attendants are responsible for ensuring plane safety by demonstrating how the equipment on board should be used by passengers. They also attend to any special requests to ensure passengers are as comfortable as possible. If necessary, flight attendants administer emergency care in flight. Due to the nature of their work, flight attendants must be available to travel on short notice and are required to work shifts typically ranging between 12 and 14. Travel jobs like these can see you working anywhere between 75 and 100 hours per month in flight and an additional 40-50 hours per month on the ground.

#2 – International English Teacher

English teachers that work abroad often perform a mix of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and primary English teaching duties. They’re responsible for teaching students how to read, write, and speak the English language. On top of teaching in the classroom, these teachers must also create, administer, and grade student exams. If you’re looking at travel jobs like this one, be prepared to spend three months to two years abroad as part of your contract.

#3 – Traveling Nurse

Traveling nurses do the same as regular nurses. Their responsibilities include observing the vitals of patients, administering medication, and maintaining patient records. At times, they might temporarily work in hospitals or clinics that are short-staffed, but their contracts generally last anywhere between eight weeks and two years.

#4 – Cabin Crew

If you love fun and a fast-paced (also ever-changing) job, a position onboard a cruise ship might be right up your alley. What’s not to love about the idea of making a living while sailing the seas on a giant luxury boat? Aside from earning anything up to R220,000 per year, you’ll also score free meals and accommodation! Since these are some of the most fantastic travel jobs out there, they’re been highly sought after. This means that you’ll have to work hard to prove your worth and score a spot on the boat crew.
